Welcome PhotographyTalkers!
PhotographyTalk sent you here.
Which probably means we speak the same language. You take your photography seriously. So do we. Below is what we actually do for photographers who care what their work looks like once it leaves the screen, what Alex Schult had to say about it across his testing, and how to put a sample in your hands.
What PhotographyTalk has said about our prints.
Vivid Metal Prints owns the satin finish category, making it the go-to for portrait and wedding photographers.
The satin white finish is one of the best surface qualities I've seen on a metal print in six years of doing this. Photo-realistic, soft, and clean.
Zero print defects found on full inspection. No banding, no dust marks, no print head streaks.
Or watch him test it on camera.
What he has tested.
(So far.)
Three finishes, three separate reviews, three separate test prints. Each one ordered like a normal customer would.
White Ultra Gloss

Read full review →The science Roger figured out forty years ago.
Vivid Metal Prints started as Image Wizards. Our original owner, Roger K Laudy, helped shape modern dye-sublimation on aluminum before ChromaLuxe was even a brand name. The process we still use today is the one Roger worked out at his shop years before the rest of the industry caught up.
The trick is the sandwich. Aluminum panel on the bottom. A white titanium dioxide coating on top of that. Then a clear polymer layer over the white. When the dyes sublimate, they travel down into the clear layer and stop, suspended above the white base. Light enters the surface, passes through the suspended dyes, bounces off the white, and exits back out through the surface.
"Every show I ever did, I put them on easels and leaned them back, and never used lighting. People said they have a light in them."
That suspended-dye glow is the thing Alex was describing in his Milky Way piece when he said paper and canvas physically can't reproduce it. Roger figured that out. We just kept building.
