It is the single biggest visible difference, and it is not subtle. Side by side with a paper or canvas print, metal makes the others look flat. Highlights pop, color holds its intensity, and the image reads with a dimensionality those mediums physically cannot reproduce.
A deeper black point
Deeper blacks mean more recoverable shadow detail. Texture in grass, the weave in dark fabric, the mood in a low-light portrait. All of it stays readable instead of crushing to a flat gray-green blob. Your shadows keep their story.
