What Are Metal Prints? 

Metal prints are photographs or artwork infused directly into a sheet of coated aluminum through a process called dye-sublimation. Instead of being printed on the surface, the image becomes part of the metal itself, creating incredible depth, detail, and vibrancy that traditional prints can't match. The result is a modern, frameless* piece that's waterproof, fade-resistant, and ready to hang. Perfect for both fine art and everyday memories.

 

The Vivid Difference

Vivid Metal Prints stands apart through a combination of craftsmanship, scale, and precision that few labs can match. Every print is made in-house by a team of master printers using professional Epson dye- sublimation systems and high-grade aluminum panels up to 4x8 feet, one of the largest single-panel sizes available. We obsess over color accuracy, surface uniformity, and long-term durability, calibrating every printer and press constantly. Unlike mass-production labs, each order is individually proofed, pressed, and inspected by hand to ensure gallery-quality results that truly live up to our name and standards.

1. Finishes to Match Your Vision

We offer five unique finishes, each designed to showcase your images in the best possible way. It is difficult to show the differences so we tried to make digital representations to help you conceptualize the aesthetic. Pay attention to the reflection of the light in the top left corner of the images, as well as the metallic texture that is present in the clear finishes:

White Gloss: For the highest contrast and sharp detail. Perfect for bold, vibrant images.

White Semi-Gloss: A balance between vibrancy and reduced reflectivity.

White Matte: A non-reflective option with soft tones, ideal for minimal glare environments.

Clear Gloss: Allows the brushed metal texture to shine through, giving your work a striking, modern look. Clear finishes have a metallic look as they drop out the white base.

2. Framing Options for Every Style

Your art deserves the perfect frame. Whether you prefer a minimalist look or a statement-making design, we’ve got you covered:

Frame to Edge (Flush Frame): Available in sleek black, pewter, or silver. Creates a bold, modern finish.

Recessed Frames (Floating Frames): Adds a subtle floating effect, elevating the print off the wall for a gallery-inspired look.

Shadowbox Frames: Thick, dramatic black frames that draw attention to the image.

Unframed Options: For those who have a local framer that want to frame it themselves. This option is just the flat panel, so there is nothing on the back by which to hang.

DUO & Wall Mounts: Flexible, cost conscious, space-saving options perfect for portable displays or smaller setups. Wallmount is made of PVC material (not foam), and duo blocks can "stick or stand" and are stickable and movable up to 5-7 times with the same adhesive strip. 

With sizes ranging from as small as 5”x5” to as large as 48”x96”, we can accommodate everything from intimate portraits to large-scale statement pieces.

 

3. Hanging & Mounting Hardware

 

When you see hanging and mounting hardware, we don't want you to think "framing" or "backing." Our frames/backers are listed in bullet #2 above. When you read hanging & mounting hardware, you should think french cleats, wire, security hardware - how the image will actually HANG on the wall.

We have three main options:

1. Easy Mount

Easy mount is our main/easiest way to hang. It includes two screws, two anchors, and two brackets. Think of these as a narrow french cleat. You screw the tabs into the anchors in the wall, and hang the print directly on them. One set is plenty strong to affix a 48x96 to drywall. Wider french cleats are available upon request. 

 

2. Secure Easy Mount

The secure easy mount is the same as the regular easy mount, except we give you an additional anchor, a T-screw, and a key. This allows you to lock the print to the wall to prevent people from being able to pull it off the wall. This is ideal for commercial/high traffic locations.

3. Wire

Our wire option is just a standard wire that we add to the back of the framed prints. 

 

4. Services that set us both up for success!

 One of the most important services that we offer to pro's like you is the ability to order press proofs. We send you physical proofs to approve prior to pulling the trigger on the final print. Check out this quick video about our proofing system:

In addition to offering you proofs, we have various options of ordering samples so you can have a better reference for our different finishes. 

You have two options in this regard:

First is an inexpensive sample kit for $5 that features five small pieces of metal on each of our finishes using our own stock photo at 3.5"x5". 

You can order our inexpensive kit with our stock image HERE. 

 

Second is a personal sample kit. For this kit we use your image and print it on all five of our finishes at approximately 8x10 to 8x12 for $120. This makes an excellent sales tool to keep with you to help potential customers decide on what finish would work best for them.

Pricing & Ordering

1. How Pricing Works

We have created two tools for you to use. The first is a printable one-pager that you can print and have ready to use to quote. This shows our most popular sizes, and prices for each of the different frames. 

On the left are the sizes, and each column on the right represents a different frame option mentioned above in the framing section of this guide. 

When you download it, there is a cell on the top right with a 1 in it. If you change this number to a decimal, it will reflect that discount on the sheet. So if we give you a standing 20% discount, you would put in .8 (1-.2=.8) and all of the prices in the sheet will change. To see 30% off, you'd type in .7 in this cell (1-.3=.7). 

 

The next tool, we are very proud of. It is a editable excel calculator. You can quote multiple pieces, any custom size and have info buttons to show photos of the different available framing options.

1. How To Place An Order

One thing we heard from our customers time and time again, is that they wanted to be able to order custom sizes on our website. So we have added the feature! The order system can seem a little complicated at first glance, but if you just look at each step individually, it greatly simplifies the process. We made a video to help you navigate the platform.

If you are walking into a facility and you want to land an order before you walk out, this is the document you need! Print it, fill it out, take a photo of the completed sheet, and email it to info@vividmetalprints.com. Our team will handle the rest! 

This sheet will give you all the necessary fields, as well as the framing limitations to gather all necessary order details to ensure we can process the order without any further contact. 

*IMPORTANT: There is a QR code on this sheet. Once you fill it out, tell the client to scan the code to go to the upload page. They can upload all of the files there (https://vividmetalprints.wetransfer.com/). They just need to give us their name/phone number when uploading the files so we can ensure that we match the appropriate files to the right job.

File Setup & Resolution Guidelines (Our full FAQ can be found HERE)

Editing your photos

Before sending your photo for printing, it's crucial to make any necessary edits and adjustments such as: cropping, straightening, and enhancing the colors and contrast. Ultimately, we match to what we see on screen. That being said, you can always request for us to do more work to enhance your photos.

Cropping and scaling

Please be sure your file scales to the appropriate ratio you are trying to order. If you have a square image and you do not want it cropped, be sure to order a square print, otherwise you could lose critical parts of your image. We will never crop key components of an image without first contacting you.

File types accepted

We typically recomment 300dpi at size in the Adobe RGB color space. We accept most popular formats, though we prefer TIFF as it is lossless and keeps all of the data in your file resulting in the best possible image.

Modern camera phones can print images up to around 20"x30". Older smartphones typically cap out at 11"x14" to 12"x18". If you have a nice DSLR camera then you should be fine. We will review your image FREE of charge.


Shipping & Turnaround Times

98% of orders ship within 3-5 business days. For jobs over 30 pieces, we may need 7-10 business days. 

 

Returns And Customer Support

We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are unhappy, we want to make it right. If you are ordering a print larger than 30x40, you are entitled to a FREE proof set. We want to make sure we get it right the first time and that you love the print you unbox! If ever you have an issue
